She had been working extremely hard to gain the necessary qualifications and experience to continue her career in Medicine in Australia, which was extremely important to her at the time.
Before arriving in Australia in 2008, Lina worked as a well-respected doctor in the Jordanian city of Irbid. Lina then began to complete the mandatory requirements in Australia to practice as a General Practitioner, at her own expense, where she completed several medical exams in Melbourne to have her qualifications recognised.
Lina then completed two years of work experience in the Trauma Unit at the Royal North Shore Hospital. She also completed unpaid work at St Vincent's Hospital and at Westmead Hospital. She was then advised that a further 12 months of supervised, unpaid GP Training was required which meant that Lina would have to pay $1000 per month to the medical practitioner for the additional training. The placement was available in the Gosford area, with over 400 applicants competing for this position.
It was during this period of intensive studying and work experience towards her career goal as a GP that Lina also completed a Cosmetic Dermal Science and Laser Course.
Her ParentsNext Case Manager at PeoplePlus Bankstown, Pauline Ryan, then worked with her to explore possible avenues for Lina to use her skills and knowledge of the course she had just completed. This included exploring further career options in her chosen field, with discussions focusing on the possibility of Lina running her own business.
Lina was then referred to the New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS) where she completed a Certificate IV in New Small Business. In February 2017, Lina was very excited to open Lina Skin Care, her own cosmetic and beauty clinic in Bankstown where she currently has around 40 clients.
Lina’s youngest child recently turned six and as a result, Lina is no longer registered with the ParentsNext program. She credits the success of her business to the programs made available through PeoplePlus.
“I found both the ParentsNext and NEIS program to be very informative and beneficial. If it wasn’t for these programs I wouldn’t have my business today and if I wasn’t referred to ParentsNext, I wouldn’t have known about NEIS. I am truly grateful for all the support and guidance that I received from the staff at PeoplePlus,” Lina said.
The team at PeoplePlus would like to congratulate Lina on this fantastic achievement and wish you continued success in your career.
