The Expo, which hosted 21 employers and RTO’s including WDEA Employment, Matchworks, Serco, Hibernian Hotel, Sarino Russo Apprenticeships and Bendigo TAFE, aims to connect job seekers with local employers as well as providing new career opportunities and educational pathways.
With a free sausage sizzle lunch held outside the venue, things were also heating up inside with a raffle hosted by National Heating & Cooling, who kindly gave away a BBQ to one lucky attendee on the day.
PeoplePlus Executive Chairman, Con Kittos, was thrilled with the reception and collaborative effort of the Expo, which is the second to be hosted in Victoria for 2017.
“It was wonderful to see that most job seekers who attended were open minded and exploring all their options. The expo helped introduce our job seekers to possibilities that may not have otherwise considered.
"The Expo’s main focus was to facilitate interaction between the local job seekers and relevant industry stakeholders, and it was also a way to highlight the training and employment opportunities available to people within the sector,” he said.
Numerous vacant positions in the Bendigo region were also advertised on the day, with local job seeker Brad Johnson attending an interview earlier this week for a position as a Truck Driver with Matchworks. With assistance from his Case Manager Kaylene, Brad should hear back with an outcome from the interview in the next few weeks, we wish you all the best Brad!
Mr. Kittos believes that the local interest in the expo will build to the success of future events.
“We decided to invest in running an employment expo because I feel it is important to get our local people excited about all the opportunities that are right outside their front door. It was so successful, we will make this an annual event.”
