When Hong first came to the PeoplePlus branch in Haymarket, he had been unemployed for almost seven years.

He had been living in a noisy hostel and couldn’t afford to do the things he loved, like running, and going to the movies.

Hong attended PeoplePlus almost daily, where he would tirelessly scroll through job advertisements and cold-call employers seeking his next opportunity.

His case manager Zoe worked with him on job interview techniques and identifying transferable skills to boost his confidence and employability.

Hong was encouraged to apply for an Administration Assistant role at the PeoplePlus hub located in Burwood, where he successfully proceeded to interview stage where Zoe again worked with him, assisting with obtaining interview attire and conducting mock interviews.

We’re pleased to report that Hong was successful with his application and commenced employment within our very own organisation.

To ensure that Hong had the skills and resources needed in his new role, Hong’s manager Cecile coached and mentored him and recently commented that “Hong is a valued member of the team and provides maturity and knowledge at the Burwood site”.

Hong said that he enjoys working in a team environment again, as he had missed the interaction of co-workers, and is looking forward to planning a trip overseas.
